Best Home Depot Paint

There’s a lot to consider when buying paint for your home that you probably haven’t even considered. Because of that, I’m going to go over some of the best paint at Home Depot.

Behr and Glidden are two of the best paint brands that Home Depot regularly sells. While these paints may be a little more expensive than some of the alternatives available, they tend to have more vibrant colors and they chip less.

Home Depot Paint

In this blog, we’ll discuss the two brands available and Home Depot as well as offer some advice on how to save money on getting the task completed.

Best Home Depot Paint

Shopping for paint takes as much thought and research as shopping for carpets or hardwood; after all, these will all make up a permanent part of your home.

There are some basic rules and tips that are important when you’re shopping for the best Home Depot paint.

It may seem obvious to some that one should cover any objects they don’t want to be painted, but it bears repeating. More importantly, the paint you want needs to blend with the lighting and mood you want.

Behr

Since 1978, Behr has been the house brand for Home Depot locations. As a marker of comparison, users often rate it right alongside with Benjamin Moore’s paints, an attractive alternative if you’re shopping elsewhere. In terms of quality, Behr boasts their Marquee product as the best and most prominently placed in stores.

Paint is an interesting marketing product, as there’s so much to address when there seems like so very little. Ostensibly, blue paint is just blue, but Behr offers numerous options that better illustrate just what shade of blue you’re looking at.

Behr’s Navy Blue is a particularly hot-selling item right now for living rooms because it brings some cool distance to the room and sets things almost peacefully. There’s something both inviting and relaxing about the intensity with which it first draws you in, but with the right lighting, it can complement the best elements of a room.

Behr’s white paint is also an extremely popular choice.

Marquee is the paint Home Depot pushes, so it’s worth taking a look at some of its qualities.

Pros:

  • Good customer reviews
  • Known for great quality paints for the exterior
  • Premium often delivers results with only one coat.

Cons:

  • Only sold at Home Depot
  • Supplies limited
  • Without Premium, it usually needs two coats or more.

Glidden

Glidden is the cheaper of the two main brands sold at Home Depot. It’s also owned by PPG, another brand they often sell. While the fact that it’s less expensive may lead some to believe it’s a lesser product, don’t be so quick to dismiss it. It’s often rated just as highly as Behr, with many contractors even choosing it over the competition for exteriors.

Glidden is ideal for exterior painting, meaning it’s a long-lasting paint that can withstand some weather conditions. More importantly, though, the clear, pristine colors it offers will ensure your home has never looked more attractive.

It also dries fast, which also makes it good for quick-fix repairs both indoors and outdoors. If you’ve ever sat down on a bench that was painted just a little too recently, you understand how irritating paint that’s still wet after several hours can be. It is best to get paint for the outside that dries fast, so surfaces are touchable quickly and any weather won’t affect the overall job.

Pros:

  • Good customer reviews
  • Covers brick and concrete well
  • Applicable to walls
  • Dries fast
  • Easy to clean when dry

Cons:

  • Slightly lesser quality than Behr
  • Can cause streaks on walls
  • Some have said it takes up to two coats

PPG

PPG purchased Glidden in 2012, but their premium line is the one that Home Depot tends to focus on. Some people prefer PPG because of the additives available, which can include some that help remove odor from the room.

Interior walls are often ideal for PPG Diamond, their premium line. Customers have reported that the paint usually goes on easily with only one coat and spoke highly of its very evocative color.

Pros:

  • Good customer reviews
  • Requires only one coat
  • Practical for home use

Cons:

  • Some users had to use more than one coat
  • Does not dry fast

Tips for Buying Paint

A lot of Home Depot’s customers are not even aware of one of their best-kept secrets simply because they don’t know how to ask for it.

Behr offers a premium line of paint specifically marketed toward contractors, so it’s especially efficient at its job.

Behr PRO first came to the market in 2015, and it’s been a popular item since the day it came out.

Beware of Bulk

Buying in bulk always seems like a great idea at first no matter what product it is. For one thing, you know you’ll always have it in supply at your home rather than running out to the store at the last minute. Secondly, the cost is often a lot less at stores that have the product in large quantities.

The problem with paint is not that it deteriorates over time so long as you properly store it in its can, it has much more to do with the actual way they price it.  Next time you see a ten or twenty gallon, try to price it out by how much you’ll actually need to get the job done.

With only one or two coats necessary most of the time, you’re probably overestimating the amount of actual paint necessary to complete the job. Being oversupplied can also lead to the desire to use as much of it as you can, which is unnecessarily wasteful and will likely do more harm than good.

It’s much better to get a proper estimate of the work that needs to be done and buy only what you assume you need. The cost of having to buy a little extra to finish the job is considerably less than overstocking on paint.

One final note is that you should be able to find all of these different paint brands at Home Depot’s major superstores, including the ones in New Jersey and Long Island.
